About

I grew up in Washington DC. Twenty years ago, I came to Mendoza for what I thought would be a two-week vacation. I stayed for the culture, the beauty, the people—the asados, the wine and Fernet, the lunches that stretch into hours as friends arrive unannounced and often turn into dinner.

I co-founded The Vines of Mendoza and still lead it today. What started as one project grew into The Vines Resort & Spa, Vines Global, and The Vines Foundation, which invests in education and opportunity in Vista Flores. We built it with friends, growers, and neighbors, creating something lasting that will leave this community stronger. I live in the Uco Valley at our vineyard, close to the people and place that shaped my life.

I’m an adventurer, photographer, and winemaker—three ways of exploring, creating, and connecting with place and people. I travel whenever I can, seeking unfamiliar streets and great light. Photography keeps me searching. Winemaking keeps me connected. This site connects the two.

On Photography

I make photographs to seek authentic moments that connect us as people. I look for the unguarded instant when someone’s real self shows through—a glance, a laugh, a small gesture that tells the story. I work mostly in cities and high-energy streets, shooting close and at eye level with a Leica and 35mm lens, quick and in available light. I favor black and white, clean lines, pockets of shadow—as little noise as possible.

What I keep finding is simple: we’re more alike than different. Travel gives me raw material. The subject is always connection.

On Wine

I make wines that speak clearly of the Uco Valley—high light, cool nights, clean air, stony soils, a high-desert landscape that gives energy and lift. My approach is straightforward: start with healthy vines, pick for freshness and depth, handle the fruit gently, and let time work. Oak supports; it never leads. When conditions allow, I use native ferments and keep interventions minimal so the vineyard carries the story.

In Mendoza, my wines are called Uco’s Playground, named for Uco, the black lab who shared nearly 16 years with me. They’re terroir-driven and distinctive, made to express our high-desert character with clarity. I also like to experiment, bringing in unique varietals and thoughtful techniques when they add texture and life without drowning out place. I work with a fantastic winemaking team led by Pablo Martorell and Mariana Onofri.

Beyond Mendoza, through Vines Global I make wines with partners in Priorat, Champagne, the Mosel, and Montalcino. I call these wines Coincidir—Spanish for “to coincide” or “to meet”—for the good fortune of meeting and working with remarkable winemakers around the world. If I do my job well, you taste the season, the place, and the hands behind it—and you want another glass.
